Forget vacation, Staycations can be fun too!

I know with the economy, its hard. For us singles parents that means plans for vacation might get cancel and a staycation would be better. I had plenty of staycations and discover what I can do within my area. So here are my top 5 picks to do with my son over the summer.

  1. Go to the pool
  • The pools in our area are actually free during the summer which is nice and something we enjoyed. Yet our favorite pool is in our old town which is a good 30 minute drive but we still will be going there also.

  1. Go to a ball game
  • I actual enjoy going to the ball game and get excited when Jayden gets a little interested in it too. Since I sign him up for the kids club, he gets in for free. I love going on Buck Nights when admission is cheap and some of the concessions stands are a decent price too. Also Sunday afternoons are great for families to take their littles ones.
  1. Go on a day trip
  • Living in West Virginia, there are plenty of parks, local restaurants, and outdoor activities to do. I can bet you will see us around the Huntington, Fairmount, Fayetteville, and so many other areas. I love going towards the mountains and plan to take kiddo to see Blackwater Fall for the first time.

  1. Go to Live on the Levee
  • Our city host this every summer. I am looking forward to all the live music, food trucks, and making memories this summer. Also look forward to the return of the Sternwheel Regatta.
  1. Read one book a day.
  • This is something that is very simple to do but we think we don’t have that much time. I encourage my parents to read one book a night to their children. By reading we are extending children’s vocabulary and imagination. I  do this with my own son and we have favorites that enjoyed reading. Pick a few from your childhood and introduce them to your kids. It’s a precious bonding moment.
